Dr. Virgile Madua Kikaya is the Director for Global Health Security at Jhpiego, a Johns Hopkins University affiliate, with over 25 years of leadership advancing global health across Africa.

With deep experience in surveillance, emergency preparedness, and outbreak response, he has supported the development of critical national health security architectures, including National Public Health Institutes and Public Health Emergency Operations Centers. His work has directly strengthened country readiness and coordinated responses to public health threats. He recently played a key role in the launch of the Africa Health Security Accelerator, a platform designed to drive innovation, partnership, and scalable solutions for health security across the continent.

Dr. Kikaya’s experience spans neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), HIV, maternal and reproductive health, and health systems strengthening. He is particularly committed to advancing cross‑institutional collaboration and sustainable models that enable countries to anticipate, detect, and respond effectively to future health threats.
