Dr. Paige Armstrong currently serves as the acting director for the Global Health Center, which leads CDC’s global efforts to protect and improve health for the American people and others around the world through science and public health action. Dr. Armstrong has held a variety of leadership roles during her CDC career, including her permanent position as Associate Director for Global Health in the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), where she oversees the global portfolios of seven divisions and three cross-cutting offices. Prior to re-joining NCEZID, Dr. Armstrong served as the Associate Director for Global Health in the Division of Viral Hepatitis in CDC’s National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention. She also served as Epidemiology Team Lead and a medical officer for the Rickettsial Zoonoses Branch in NCEZID’s Division of Vector-borne Diseases. She joined CDC as an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer in the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases. Dr. Armstrong has also served in a number of responses and detail positions, including at the White House and with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Dr. Armstrong is board certified in emergency medicine and completed residency at the George Washington University. Dr. Armstrong received her medical doctorate from the University of Connecticut, and a master’s degree in health science and bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. She continues to practice clinically at Emory University and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.
