Dr. Satoshi Ezoe, Director of Global Health Strategy Division, International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Dr. Satoshi Ezoe currently serves as Director, Global Health Policy/Strategy Division, International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), since August 2020, where he is responsible for global health diplomacy and cooperation including COVID-19 response, G7 Hiroshima Summit in 2023, UNGA etc.
Prior to joining MOFA, he was engaged in health care and public health policy in the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan, including in the areas of global health, universal health insurance system, non-communicable diseases including mental health and cancer control.
He was seconded to UNAIDS Headquarters in Geneva (2009-2012). He was the first appointed Senior Coordinator for Global Health (2015- 2017), where he was involved in the WHO emergency reform, coordinating health agendas for the G7 Ise-Shima Summit in 2016. He was most recently Counsellor of the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations (2017-2020), where he was instrumental in facilitating UN General Assembly High-Level Meetings on tuberculosis (2018) and universal health coverage (2019).
He is a Medical Doctor with PhD and received Master of Public Health and Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University.
